Vanguard Storage Services Limited (“we”, “us”) is the operator of the website www.vanguardstorage.co.uk. We collect, use and are responsible for certain information about you. When we do so, we are regulated under the General Data Protection Regulation which applies across the European Union (including the United Kingdom) and we are responsible as ‘controller’ of that personal information for the purposes of those laws. THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND USE

Personal information provided by you

In the course of operating our self storage business, we collect personal information when you provide it to us, such as your name, postal address, email address, phone numbers, date of birth, emergency contact details and payment details.
We also collect personal information from you if you apply for a job with us or work for us for any period of time. In this context, personal information we gather may include: contact details, financial and payment details, details of education, qualifications and skills, marital status, nationality, NI number, job title, and CV.

Personal information provided by third parties

Occasionally we may receive information about you from other sources (such as credit reference agencies), which we will add to the information we already hold about you in order to help us provide services to you and to improve and personalise our service to you. If you apply for a job with us, we may receive information from the people who provide references.

Personal information about other individuals

If you give us information on behalf of someone else as an alternate contact, referee or next of kin, you confirm that the other person has agreed that you can:

give consent on his/her behalf to the processing of his/her personal data;
receive on his/her behalf any data protection notices; and
if relevant, give consent to the transfer of his/her personal data abroad.

Sensitive personal information

We will not usually ask you to provide sensitive personal information. We will only ask you to provide sensitive personal information if we need to for a specific reason, for example, if we believe you are having difficulty dealing with your account due to illness. If we request such information, we will explain why we are requesting it and how we intend to use it.

Sensitive personal information includes information relating to your ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, whether you belong to a trade union, your physical or mental health or condition, sexual life, and whether you have committed a criminal offence. We will only collect your sensitive personal information with your explicit consent.

Children

We do not knowingly collect personal data relating to children under the age of 16. If you are a parent or guardian of a child under the age of 16 and think that we may have information relating to that child, please contact us. We will ask you to prove your relationship to the child but if you do so you may (subject to applicable law) request access to and deletion of that child’s personal data.

HOW AND WHEN DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM YOU?

We gather information directly from you face to face if you come to our site for information or to sign a storage agreement and over the telephone if you ring us to make an enquiry. We collect personal information via our website and mobile applications or ‘Apps’ and other technical systems. We collect this when you use our website or Apps to sign up to, participate in or receive a service from us, such as requesting a quote online or entering a live chat. We may monitor and record communications with you (such as telephone conversations and emails). We may do this for a number of reasons, such as to check the quality of our customer service, for training purposes, to prevent fraud or to make sure we are complying with legal requirements.

If you visit our storage facility, some personal data may be collected from monitoring devices and systems such as closed circuit TV (CCTV) and door entry systems at the site.

REASONS WE CAN COLLECT AND USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Contracts

Where you make enquiries about storing with us before you become a customer, we need to collect personal information about you so that we can take steps to enter into a contract with you. Once you have become a customer, we need to collect and use personal information to provide services to you and to claim our right to be paid in return for our services under our standard terms of business/contract with you. This includes collecting and using your personal information to:

enable us to follow up on enquiries made by you in relation to storing with us in accordance with industry guidelines and to give you our quote;
do a credit check—see ‘Credit checking’ section below;
prepare a storage agreement with you and arrange insurance cover if required;
manage any accounts you hold with us;
contact you for reasons related to the service you have signed up for or to provide information you have requested;
deal with payment for our services;

If you apply for a job with us, we will collect and use personal information to process your application and check references. If you take a job with us, we will collect and use your personal information to enter into an employment contract with you and to administer the employment relationship, including making payments to you, accounting for tax, ensuring safe working practices, monitoring and managing staff access to systems and facilities, monitoring absences and performance and conducting assessments.

Legal obligations

We collect and use personal information from our customers and staff to comply with our legal obligations. For example, we will take copies of documents that identify you so that we can comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements.

Legitimate business interests

Our priority is to make sure we give a high quality and secure service to customers and to follow up effectively on enquiries even though we accept that not all enquiries will lead to a business relationship or contract. We collect personal information to:

It is a key feature of our storage service that we operate CCTV within the storage facility. We collect and process CCTV images

so we can fulfil our contractual obligation to deliver a secure self storage environment;
to establish whether you are doing something that breaches your contract with us; and
to assist in the establishment or defence of any crime or other investigation.

We may also communicate information about other services we can offer you and update you about our activities which may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to continue receiving these communications, you can opt out at any time. See ‘What rights do you have?’ below for further information. If you ask us to stop contacting you in this way, you can also ask us to start again at any time.

If we propose to use your information for any other uses we will ensure that we notify you first. If we need your consent to use your information for these other purposes, we will give you the opportunity to opt in or to refuse. If you opt in, you will be able to opt out at any time.

Credit checking

We may do a credit check on you so that we can make credit decisions about you and people or businesses associated with you. These checks may also be used to help prevent and detect fraud and money laundering.

Our search will be recorded on the files of the credit reference agency.

We may also disclose information about how you conduct your account to credit reference agencies and your information may be linked to records relating to other people living at the same address or who are financially linked to you.

Other credit businesses may use your information to make credit decisions about you and the people with whom you are financially associated, trace debtors, and prevent and detect fraud and money laundering.

If you provide false or inaccurate information to us and we suspect fraud, we will record this.

When will we contact any other person about you?

If you provide us with details of any other person we can contact to discuss your account, we may contact that person and discuss and share the details of your account with that person and deal with that person in relation to your account as if that person was you. We may particularly want to do this if we are unable to get in touch with you for any reason. If you change your mind, you can email or write to us and have this person taken off your account as an alternate contact person (see ‘How can you contact us?’ below).

If you provide us the details of a person who we can contact for a job reference, we may contact that person in connection with your job application.

Who your information might be shared with

We may disclose your personal data to:

other companies within our group
service providers under contract with us to support our business operations, such as fraud prevention, debt collection, payroll, technology services]
credit reference agents—see ‘Credit checking’ above;
our insurers and insurance brokers if you take out insurance cover through us;

If we pass data on to insurers, they may enter your data onto a register of claims which is shared with other insurers to prevent fraudulent claims. If we use an outside party to process your information, we will require them to comply with our instructions in connection with the services they provide for us and not for their own business purposes.

KEEPING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION SECURE

We have appropriate security measure in place to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost, or used or accessed in an unauthorised way. We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those people processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

access to your customer account is controlled by a password and user name that are unique to you;

I want to give a shout out to Mamun, who really went above and beyond and exceeded all my expectations for good customer service. He responded immediately to my online enquiry, both leaving a voicemail message and sending me an email. When I was running late to open my account and drop off the boxes for storage he volunteered to stay longer to help. The whole check in experience was so smooth, he listened to my needs and adjusted my quote to make sure I only pay for what I need. Finally he was so incredibly attentive to ensure I was comfortable with finding my locker and being able to let myself in and out of the storage. Can’t recommend Vanguard and Mamun in particular enough!

Very pleased with the overall booking experience. Ryan was incredibly helpful and professional, had me come round to view the storage spaces available to see which was the best thing for my items. Very impressed with the facility and security of the unit. Ryan was incredibly efficient and courteous and was able to help me with my last minute booking.Also, he recommended Zak from Bakaa Vans to move my belongings since the van fits into the underground lot which a lot of vans can’t. Used Zak from Baaka Vans as recommended by Vanguard to move my goods to storage. Absolutely incredible. Nothing was too much trouble.I had to move 2 large artworks plus household items from 2 hours outside central London firstly to a central London apartment to drop the artworks and then the remainder to Vanguard storage. The problem was the van that was large enough to take the artworks was too large for the underground Vanguard storage. This did not phase Zak who arranged for a large truck to collect everything from the first collection point, drop the artworks to central London apartment where a smaller truck was waiting. The remaining items were offloaded to the smaller truck and then taken to my storage unit in Soho and patiently unloaded and stacked to perfection in my unit. All this was done with patience and a smile despite London traffic and no parking permitted outside my apartment - Zak found a way around every obstacle.Cannot recommend highly enough. A huge shout out to Zak and his team!!

Booked a space here after seeing their website and convenience. I can say that it's very safe, clean, and the staff is very helpful. Also no humidity in the units which is very important for long term. I then booked the company they work with for moving, which was very easy and actually for central London the price was very good and the staff did a great job. Overall great experience.

Using Vanguard Self Storage was cheap, easy, and incredibly convenient! It was a life-saver as we were in a pinch with some time between flats. The staff were especially helpful and went above and beyond! Ben in particular was really helpful on check-in. He answered all of my questions and were able to accommodate my particular needs. They were flexible about the term (as I just needed 8 days) and were able to only charge me for that amount of time. They were also able to book me a storage unit immediately on the same day. Finally, they were really helpful in directing me how to get a taxi to come down to the entrance to retrieve my bags. (The storage is on the 3rd basement level inside a parking garage, so cabs have to get a parking ticket to get in but there is a validation machine inside so as to avoid a charge.) I would absolutely use them again in the future. Thank you Vanguard!

Thank you Vanguard Storage for all your help. I enquired about renting a locker to store luggage for 3 weeks and the team were fantastic. After enquiring online I got a call from one of the team members within minutes to explain everything and give me a quote. Ryan from the Oxford Circus branch helped me get set up with the unit and even went out of his way to send me videos explaining how to access the unit as I could only access my unit after hours. The storage facility is of the highest standard with access codes to enter the building, CTVV and an alarm system. The experience was very smooth, I will absolutely be back and recommend Vanguard for all your storage needs!

Vanguard Self Storage is a great storage company. The person in charge of my branch is particularly helpful. Ryan picks up call/replies to email speedily, and there is no hassle during my entire self storage period with them. The warehouse itself is clean and cool, despite London’ summer now is 30 degree. Security is high - you set up your own password to enter the warehouse plus you lock the unit. I will recommend Vanguard for sure.

It was honestly the best experience I could ever ask for. Ryan and the others went truly above and beyond at all times to make sure that I was not only satisfied, but happy and taken care of. When I was leaving the UK for a few months, and due to some unexpected circumstances of needing to get a storage unit, get all my stuff in, and then on a plane in less than 24hrs. Ryan did everything in his power to make it a smooth transition for me. Reassuring me that my items would be taken care of, and secured during my journey away. Cannot recommend this storage place enough! Apart from great location, service and safety, Ryan has been absolutely incredible with helping me out. Starting from moving my things from one locker to another while I was in a different country to being incredibly patient and understanding with all of my personal complications due to the current situation between Russia and Ukraine. As almost all of the other reviews mention, Ryan and Ben are fantastic examples of brilliant customer service and really nice guys. They'll go above and beyond for their customers and always with a smile and good conversation.The storage location itself can be a little confusing to get into for the first time as the entrance is inside a public car park, but I gave the contact number a call and Ryan came and unlocked the doors for me. Set up was simple and easy, then entrance to the storage space is all done through personal PIN. Inside, the facilities are clean with good sized corridors, no squeezing through narrow walkways!

Top storage facility in London, the location is fantastic. I have had all my university apartment items there for over a year now and it’s perfect to pop back in and sort through to find things every time I am back in London. I used to live here before i met my third wife Lindsey and moved back to the countryside. People are often surprised when i tell them that i used to live in London. "how much did that cost you" they ask. The answer: just about £5000 a year. I love to look at the shock on their face as i answer their question; and they always follow with this same question ;) "How on G-D's green earth did you live in central London for £5000 a year?" Simple, i didn't buy or rent any of those overpriced apartments and houses, i lived in a storage unit. This storage unit, to be exact!This is a prime piece of real-estate and i really loved living here, just a short walk away from Mayfair, lovely job. I lived in a 40sq ft storage unit/ apartment, it was thantastic, i had everything i would ever need: Bed, Barbecue, Baby wipes. Simple living.I lived in London during a brief period in my life; in between my second marriage, and my third marriage. Those were the second best days of my life, second only, to my time in the Royal Marines. There will always be a special place in my heart for W1 Self Storage in Central London.

I recently rented a storage space here on behalf of my employer and I can't recommend it highly enough. The best thing is absolutely the staff - I dealt with Alastair who I found to be efficient and helpful well over and above the call of duty. It was also the cheapest locker I found in Central London. The location is very central and easy to get to and the security is very impressive. I have no doubts about the safety of the items being stored, and would heartily recommend Vanguard W1 to anyone looking for a safe, affordable, Central London storage facility, with the bonus of top notch staff.

Amazing service and very friendly staff. They helped with my storage at a very short period of time, and really appreciate the flexibility they are offering to make sure I have a secured unit. Clean and safe storage in Central London, I do highly recommend it. The only issue I had was the height restriction in the carpark, it didn't allow Luton vans to drive inside and park right outside the storage, but speak to the staff there and they are happy to offer solutions. Make sure to mention this to the man & van or removal companies too so they have an idea. It worked out fine for me with the loading, just took a little longer.

Was a super nice visit. The customer service was excellent - I was received by a young lady named Amal - she was a very lovely lad. I came in at the start of my visit somewhat stressed, but she answered all my queries, and even helped give me some personal advise (my boyfriend cheated on me countless times and he had the audacity to kick ME out). Anyway, I didn't have anywhere to stay and all this extra stuff with no idea where to store it, but coming here really saved my life. Will definitely visit again! And will definitely recommend to others!
